CBRE Restructures Capital Markets Team in Portugal, Appoints Director for Logistics and Residential
The real estate consultancy CBRE has announced the appointment of João Duarte Silva as the new Director of Capital Markets for the logistics and residential sectors in Portugal. This strategic hiring is part of a broader reorganization of the firm's Capital Markets division, which aims to enhance its sector-specific specialization in advising clients on property acquisition, sale, and development transactions.
With a career spanning more than 15 years in the real estate market, João Duarte Silva has a proven track record of providing advisory services to a range of clients, including financial institutions, property developers, and institutional investors. His expertise covers both complex transactions and large-scale development projects. In his new capacity at CBRE, he will lead the dedicated team for logistics and residential assets, focusing on both income-producing properties and new development opportunities, including land acquisition.
The company noted that the restructuring comes at a time of significant activity in these two sectors. CBRE believes that the pressing need for new housing construction, coupled with the expansion of e-commerce and consumer demand, will continue to drive growth and investment in the residential and logistics markets. The firm confirmed it is already managing a substantial pipeline of transactions in these areas.
As part of the new structure, Pedro Leiria Pinto has been promoted to Deputy-Head of Capital Markets. He will work alongside Igor Borrego, Head of Capital Markets, to provide senior oversight and coordinate the division's various mandates. The Capital Markets team is now formally organized into specialized units covering offices, retail, midcaps, hotels, agribusiness, and alternative assets. This structure is further supported by a dedicated real estate investment banking and debt advisory unit, which handles M&A and financing operations.
Igor Borrego, Head of Capital Markets at CBRE Portugal, commented on the strategic rationale behind the changes. “The reorganization of the Capital Markets area at CBRE in Portugal reflects the growing need for specialization and proximity to the market,” he said. “It is important for clients that their point of contact at CBRE has a deep understanding of the dynamics of each sector, and that is what we want to offer.”
Borrego also welcomed the new director, stating, “I am very excited about the incorporation of João. He brings us considerable experience, market knowledge, and established relationships with diverse players. With his experience at CBRE and in the market, Pedro will contribute to ensuring the seniority and efficiency of what is the largest and most experienced Capital Markets team in Portugal.”
This reorganization by CBRE underscores a clear trend in the real estate services industry towards deeper specialization. By creating dedicated leadership for the logistics and residential sectors, the firm is positioning itself to better capitalize on the strong investor interest and development potential in these key segments of the Portuguese economy.
