US Company Havi Announces €200 Million Investment in Lisbon Tech Hub

The North American company Havi has announced it will invest 200 million euros in its technological innovation center in Lisbon, the Havi TechHub, and will hire an additional 70 employees as it opens new facilities in the capital. In a statement released this week, the global company, which specializes in supply chain and technology solutions, confirmed that Lisbon was “strategically chosen” to host its global innovation center. The company intends to increase its headcount at the Havi TechHub from the current 80 employees to 150 “in the coming months,” signaling a significant expansion of its Portuguese operations. This decision, the company stated, “reflects the recognition of national talent, the dynamism of Lisbon's technological ecosystem, and the affinity with Portuguese values of innovation, collaboration, and a forward-thinking vision.”

The investment thesis is further supported by the announcement that the Havi TechHub will receive approximately 200 million euros “in the coming years.” This capital injection is expected to “contribute directly to local economic development and to the positioning of Lisbon as a leading global technology hub.” The move solidifies the city’s reputation as a magnet for foreign direct investment, particularly within the technology sector. The official inauguration of Havi's new facilities, located in the Cais do Sodré area of Lisbon, is scheduled for September 17. The event will be attended by the company's global president, Neil Humphrey, as well as the senior vice president and CEO of the Havi TechHub, Reto Sahli. During the event, the company is expected to present its “major technological innovations, investments, and other milestones at a national and global level.”

Havi, founded in Chicago in 1974, has a presence in over three dozen markets with more than 7,000 employees worldwide. The company has been active in Portugal since 1993 and currently employs 250 people across its operations in Lisbon and Porto. This latest announcement represents a new phase of commitment to the country, positioning Lisbon as the central nervous system for the brand's global technological development. The choice of Cais do Sodré, a historically significant and increasingly trendy riverside district, for its new facilities points to a strategy of embedding the company within the city's most dynamic urban centers. The expansion is seen by market analysts as a significant indicator of Lisbon's continued economic attractiveness and its successful transition into a knowledge-based economy.

The investment is expected to create a ripple effect across the local economy, stimulating demand in various sectors, including real estate and local services, as the new workforce seeks housing and amenities. The focus on a high-tech innovation hub aligns with the Portuguese government's strategy of attracting and retaining highly skilled talent and fostering a competitive technology ecosystem. The inauguration in September will be a key moment, reaffirming Havi's strategic commitment to Lisbon and marking a new chapter in the company's long-standing presence in Portugal. The investment provides a clear rationale for the city's growing prominence on the global stage, supported by a combination of local talent and international corporate confidence. The project targets the development of proprietary technologies and solutions that will be deployed across Havi's global network, with the Lisbon hub serving as the core of this effort.
