Greenvolt Concludes €150 Million Capital Injection from Shareholder KKR
The renewable energy company Greenvolt has completed a €150 million capital increase, with the final €50 million tranche being provided by its controlling shareholder, the US fund KKR. The transaction, officially registered with the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM), raises Greenvolt's total share capital to more than €917 million. This follows an initial €100 million injection executed in early August. The capital reinforcement is aimed at accelerating the company's strategic growth plan across its main business segments, which include Sustainable Biomass, large-scale Utility-Scale renewable projects, and Distributed Generation for commercial and industrial clients. A key area for the new funding is the expansion of battery storage projects, where Greenvolt is developing a significant pipeline. The company has already initiated construction on storage facilities in Poland, the United Kingdom, and Hungary.
This financial operation follows KKR's acquisition of Greenvolt in October 2024, which resulted in the company's delisting from the Euronext Lisbon stock exchange. In a statement, Greenvolt CEO João Manso Neto affirmed that the capital increase reflects the shareholder's commitment to the company's long-term strategy and its goal to become a leading reference in the energy transition. The funding is intended to enhance the company's capacity to execute its ambitious project pipeline. Greenvolt has been actively managing its portfolio through an asset rotation model, which generated over €500 million in the first six months of the year. This included the sale of a portfolio of wind and solar assets in Spain for €195 million. The proceeds from these sales, now combined with the new capital from KKR, provide Greenvolt with substantial liquidity to finance its next phase of investment. The company currently has operations in 20 different countries throughout Europe, North America, and Asia, and is focused on expanding its global presence.
