The construction of the new ISCTE-Sintra University Residence has advanced to a new phase, with the Casais Group announcing the completion of the first-floor assembly of the structure. The project, which represents a total investment of €19 million, is slated for completion in March 2026. It is designed to be a modern, functional, and sustainable building aimed at housing university students in the Sintra municipality.

The future residence will feature 197 beds, which will be distributed across apartments of various configurations. The design includes units specifically adapted for students with reduced mobility, ensuring accessibility. The development is the result of a partnership between the ISCTE university, the Sintra Municipal Council, the Sport União Sintrense, and several local cultural and recreational associations.

In addition to the residential units, the project scope includes the creation of a technology hub. This facility is intended to be an innovative space to promote integration between technology startups, students, and the local community. Residents will have access to integrated coworking areas and a direct connection to ISCTE's IT servers. The location offers proximity to public transportation, libraries, schools, and cultural centers. The project's financing is structured with €12.7 million allocated to the university residence, funded through Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). An additional €6.2 million is designated for the technology hub, with financial support from the Portugal 2030 program. This funding highlights the project's alignment with national strategic goals for education and innovation.

Sustainability is a primary objective of the construction. The project is targeting a Class A+ energy certification and a Class B circular economy certification. Furthermore, it aims to reduce primary energy consumption by over 20% compared to the Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) standard. The construction will also utilize recycled materials, which are expected to constitute up to 20% of the total materials used. This aligns with growing interest in green building practices.

António Carlos Rodrigues, CEO of the Casais Group, commented on the project's purpose. “This type of project reflects the purpose of the Casais Group to create lasting value for society. By developing modern, technological, and sustainable housing solutions, we are investing in the future of young people and contributing to more inclusive and resilient cities,” he stated. He added that providing high-quality living conditions for students fosters innovation and broader economic and social development.
