New €63 Million Moxy Hotel to Open in Alfragide, Amadora
A new hotel development representing an investment of €63 million is scheduled to open in Alfragide, in the municipality of Amadora, during the second half of September. The project, branded as Moxy Alfragide Lisboa, is being developed by Mercan Properties and will be managed by Ace Hospitality Management (AHM), marking the management company's fifteenth hotel in Portugal and its first in the Lisbon metropolitan area.
The hotel's specifications include 218 rooms, a 24-hour fitness center, a heated indoor swimming pool, and a congress center. The event facilities are composed of four configurable rooms capable of accommodating up to 500 attendees, in addition to a landscaped outdoor patio designed for hosting events. The project is strategically located within the Alfragide business park, a key commercial zone at the western edge of Lisbon.
João Pedro Figueira, the director of operations and new business for AHM, stated that the location was a primary factor in the project's conception. The hotel is intended to serve the corporate and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sectors, leveraging its proximity to numerous multinational corporations in the area. However, the operational strategy also includes attracting leisure travelers and families, utilizing the Moxy brand's modern, lifestyle-oriented concept.
The Moxy brand is part of the Marriott International portfolio, and this new establishment is expected to bring a new standard of accommodation to the Amadora area, which has historically had a limited supply of high-quality hotels. The development is seen as a significant enhancement to the local infrastructure, providing necessary support for the surrounding business community.
The construction of the Moxy Alfragide Lisboa has been progressing over the past several months, with the final stages of preparation currently underway. The investment of €63 million reflects a substantial capital commitment to the region, signaling confidence in the economic outlook for the Greater Lisbon area. The project is anticipated to create new jobs and stimulate local economic activity upon its opening.
Ace Hospitality Management, the designated operator, manages a diverse portfolio of hotel brands across Portugal, including properties under the Hilton, IHG, and Hard Rock Hotel banners. Figueira indicated that the company is actively pursuing further expansion opportunities in strategic locations throughout the country, aiming to build on its growing presence in the Portuguese hospitality market.
