PGA Aroeira Lisboa Completes Modernization and Reopens Second Golf Course
Following a four-month period of extensive modernization works, the PGA Aroeira No. 2 golf course has officially reopened. This renovation is a central part of a broader investment plan for the Aroeira resort, which also includes the construction of a new clubhouse and the development of the Aroeira Collections by Missoni, a branded residential project. The management company, Details – Sports, Hospitality, Leisure, announced the completion of the project, marking a significant milestone for the Lisbon golf scene. One year after the full remodeling of the PGA Aroeira No. 1, the course designed by Donald Steel is once again ready to welcome players. The course, previously known as the Aroeira Challenge, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The course was closed in June to facilitate a deep maintenance program aimed at elevating the playing experience for both members and visitors. The scope of the improvements was comprehensive, involving the full renovation of tee boxes, bunkers, fairways, and greens. Additionally, the project included the requalification of the surrounding landscape and the five distinctive lakes that characterize the course. In a move towards greater environmental responsibility, new state-of-the-art irrigation systems were installed along with drought-resistant Bermuda grass. These measures are intended to significantly reduce water consumption, reflecting the club's commitment to sustainability, a growing focus in new green building projects across Portugal.
Interventions were also carried out on the buggy paths and bridges throughout the course. Despite the scale of the improvements, the management has confirmed that the original layout designed by Donald Steel, which is known for being a demanding test for golfers of all skill levels, has been fully preserved. Nuno Sepúlveda, the co-CEO of Details – Sports, Hospitality, Leisure, the entity managing the only PGA National designation in Portugal, stated that “the PGA Aroeira Lisboa has all the ingredients to be the destination of choice for golf in Lisbon.” He emphasized that “the reopening of the No. 2 course is a decisive step to return the resort to the prominence it deserves within the Portuguese golf landscape.”

Mr. Sepúlveda further added that “the Aroeira No. 2 is distinguished from the No. 1 by its unique style, but it maintains the same standard of excellence in quality. The layout is exceptional, and the improvements that have been carried out will make the playing experience even more memorable, adding value to one of the most underestimated courses not only in Lisbon but in the entire country.” This renovation is part of a much larger investment plan for the site, which is being developed by Norfin. This plan includes a new clubhouse and the development of the Aroeira Collections by Missoni. For foreign investors, understanding the legalities of such large-scale developments is crucial, and seeking advice from professionals specializing in property acquisition is a vital step.
At the heart of this large-scale investment will be the Aroeira Collections Hotel. The hotel is projected to open in 2027 and will comprise 138 apartments with one-bedroom (T1) and two-bedroom (T2) layouts. It will be situated between the two golf courses and is designed to significantly enhance the tourism offerings of the Lisbon region. The management of PGA Aroeira Lisboa was assumed by Details – Sports, Hospitality, Leisure two years ago, which has since been operating both the golf course and the clubhouse. This entire project represents a significant update to the area's infrastructure and is expected to be a point of interest in future construction updates news for the region.
