Lusíadas Saúde Announces €10 Million Investment in New Maia Hospital
Lusíadas Saúde confirmed the upcoming inauguration of Hospital Lusíadas Maia on September 8th, a new healthcare facility located in the municipality of Maia. This development represents the group's sixth hospital in the northern region of Portugal and an initial investment of ten million euros. The company stated that the project is anticipated to have a significant impact on regional development, notably through the creation of 200 skilled employment positions.
The new hospital is situated within the Mira Maia Shopping center, occupying a space of over 3,000 square meters. According to Lusíadas Saúde, the facility will provide a wide array of services, including clinical analyses, 32 consultation offices, and two operating rooms. A comprehensive imaging department will be equipped with Computed Tomography (TC), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (RM), Ultrasound, X-ray, and Mammography capabilities. The project was initially conceived on a smaller scale but was later expanded to significantly increase its capacity and the scope of healthcare services offered, leading to its current designation as a full-fledged hospital.
Vasco Antunes Pereira, the CEO of Grupo Lusíadas Saúde, commented on the project's strategic importance. He explained that the Hospital Lusíadas Maia is the result of an ambitious plan that aligns with the group's strategy of expansion and local proximity. 'The hospital aims to respond to the clinical needs of the population in Maia and the neighboring municipalities,' Pereira noted, adding that it also 'contributes to reducing regional asymmetries in access to healthcare.' He further emphasized the group's commitment to deploying advanced technology and highly qualified teams across its network.
A key feature of the new hospital is its investment in advanced diagnostic technology. It will house the first uMR670 Magnetic Resonance Imaging system from United Imaging in Portugal, positioning the facility at the forefront of medical diagnostics in the country. The hospital will offer approximately 30 medical-surgical specialties, covering a wide range from Anesthesiology and Cardiology to Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, and Urology. Future plans for the unit include the introduction of outpatient surgical procedures.
The clinical operations of Hospital Lusíadas Maia will be integrated with the broader national network of Lusíadas Saúde. This includes close articulation with other units in the northern region, such as Hospital Lusíadas Porto and Hospital Lusíadas Braga, to ensure coordinated patient care. The establishment of this hospital is a significant addition to the healthcare infrastructure in the Porto metropolitan area, directly addressing the needs of a growing population.
