Palmela Municipality Provides Additional Housing to Families in Need
The Palmela Municipal Council has delivered three more residential properties to families in vulnerable situations through its supported rental program. This action is part of the municipality's ongoing 'Estratégia Local de Habitação' (Local Housing Strategy), aimed at reinforcing the social support system.
A ceremony for the signing of the rental contracts was held on July 31 at the Palmela Municipal Library. The keys to the homes were given to the new tenants at the conclusion of the event. These homes are specifically designated for families facing fragile socioeconomic circumstances and are a core part of the municipal plan to uphold the right to adequate housing.
This latest allocation is part of a broader effort. According to the municipality, a total of 52 housing units have been delivered under social support schemes since the end of 2023. This figure is presented as evidence of a firm commitment to addressing housing exclusion in the region.
The total investment for the acquisition and renovation of these three properties amounted to approximately 169,000 euros. Of this total, €97,283.52 was financed through the national 'Programa 1.º Direito' and the 'Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência' (Recovery and Resilience Plan).
The municipality stated that this initiative represents a significant step in the fight against housing precarity.
