New Event Venue 'The Chapel' Opens in Lisbon's Historic Convento do Beato
The former church of the Convento do Beato has been officially reconverted into a cultural and artistic venue named The Chapel. This transformation is the result of a six-million-euro investment, which itself is a component of a comprehensive three-year rehabilitation plan for the historic site. The project, with architectural design by the firm Risco, has created a modern event space with a total area of approximately 1,400 square meters and a capacity for up to 500 guests, intended for conferences, corporate meetings, and brand activations.
The project's design was executed with respect for the convent's architectural heritage, seeking to combine its historical elements with contemporary design. The venue's high-profile debut is scheduled for October 29th, when it will host the opening night of the Tribeca Festival Lisboa 2025, featuring the world premiere of the film ‘In the Hand of Dante’, directed by Julian Schnabel. The full official inauguration of The Chapel for public and corporate events is planned for 2026.
This development is a key part of the larger Beato Quarter, a significant urban regeneration project with a global investment surpassing 70 million euros. The promoter, Larfa Properties, is overseeing the redevelopment of 10 historic buildings, including the main Convento do Beato, the church, and several industrial buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries. The entire intervention covers over 18,000 square meters, with 8,500 square meters allocated to new housing and 3,500 square meters to landscaped courtyards. Such large-scale projects are reshaping Lisbon's landscape, a trend followed closely in our Construction Updates News section.
Catarina Quina Barros, the Director of the Convento do Beato, stated in a formal announcement that “The Chapel expands the offerings of the Convento do Beato with a more versatile proposal, conceived for those who value exclusive experiences in historic spaces.” She added that “by recovering and rehabilitating an old chapel, we preserve a significant part of Lisbon's heritage and create a center for culture, creativity, and business, contributing to the sustainable development of the city.” This aligns with a growing focus on sustainability in urban development.

The venue itself features two main floors and a terrace. The interior design includes an elegant ceiling on the upper floor and a high ceiling-height throughout, providing a sense of grandeur. The lower floor contains ten smaller 'Little Chapels' which can be used as breakout rooms or for smaller, distinct brand activations, offering flexibility for event organizers.
Larfa Properties is already advancing with the second phase of the Beato Quarter project, which is expected to commence before the end of the year. This next stage will focus on the construction of three residential buildings, offering a range of apartment typologies from T1 to T4 duplex units, complete with parking. This will add a significant number of new homes to the Beato area, a neighborhood that continues to attract both local and international interest.
