Oeiras Inaugurates New Housing Facility for Displaced Teachers
The Municipality of Oeiras has inaugurated a new residential unit in Linda-a-Pastora, specifically designated for teachers assigned to schools within the council. The rehabilitated building provides a three-bedroom apartment, with each room featuring a private bathroom. The project is part of the Municipal Supported Housing Plan for Docents, which aims to counteract the high rental prices in the local real estate market. Mayor Isaltino Morais, present at the inauguration, stated that the initiative is a direct response to the housing difficulties faced by essential professionals. "Often, displaced teachers, who come from Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda, or Viseu are confronted with the need to pay a simple quarto for 400 or 500 euros, an expense that represents almost half of their vencimento," Morais explained.
