New Mercadona Supermarket Opens in Frielas, Loures
The Spanish retail chain Mercadona announced the inauguration of a new supermarket in Frielas, located in the municipality of Loures, this Thursday. The store, situated on Rua do Bom Jardim adjacent to the IKEA complex, is the company’s second establishment in Loures and its eighth within the Lisbon district. The project is set to generate approximately 90 new jobs, all with permanent contracts, bringing Mercadona's total workforce in the municipality to over 180 employees.
The opening event featured a visit from the Loures Municipal Council executive team and representatives from the Union of Parishes of Santo António dos Cavaleiros and Frielas. Nuno Dias, the Councilor for Urbanism for Loures, remarked that the new store represents a significant and positive development for the municipality and the wider region. He noted that this opening follows another recent inauguration in Santa Iria de Azóia, underscoring the company's accelerated investment and commitment to local economic stimulation and job creation. According to the councilor, this activity confirms Loures as a modern and dynamic territory poised for future growth, highlighting the local government's success in fostering a stable environment that attracts private investment. The new supermarket spans a sales area of 1,900 square meters and includes 264 parking spaces. In line with the company's environmental commitments, the facility is equipped with two charging stations for electric vehicles and a designated parking area for scooters and bicycles. Furthermore, the building’s roof is fitted with 419 solar panels, a system designed to generate renewable energy for self-consumption and reduce annual electricity usage by an estimated 20%. This focus on green infrastructure is becoming a key factor in property development, a trend covered in our market intelligence blog.
